Cello Lessons

For more then 20 years, our lessons program has been designed for students of all ages! Whether 2 or 82, students benefit from the personalized attention of private lessons. Our experienced instructors are professionals who have been part of symphonies, educators in public schools and professional performers. They understand the needs of beginning students and can help take experienced musicians to the next level.

Cello Lessons with Mrs. Julie Cantu - Antonio Strad Violin, San Antonio
Mrs. Julie Cantu - Cello

Mrs. Julie Cantu is a former NEISD Orchestra Director for 14 years and has been teaching privately in more recent years. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from UT Austin, she is certified to teach music at all levels. Mrs. Cantu received a performance certificate in cello and has Suzuki teacher training as well.

Aaron Gomez - Cello

We are happy to welcome Mr. Gomez to our teaching roster over at our new Northside Location 7530 Bandera Road Ste 108. Mr Gomez is a junior at UTSA studying cello and piano. Aaron has been playing the cello for twelve years and has studied under San Antonio Symphony principle cellist Ken Freudigman and Bulgarian cellist Lachezar Kostov. Aaron plays in various symphony orchestras in San Antonio, including the San Antonio Chinese Orchestra. Gomez is not only an active cellist, but also an active composer. He has studied composition with James Syler and Dr. Ethan Wickman.

John Stuart - Cello

Antonio Strad is proud to have Mr. Stuart join our teaching staff. Mr. Stuart, a San Antonio native, has over 14 years of teaching experience in the area. As a young cellist, Stuart attended Alamo Heights High School and studied cello with Dan Zollars. While in high school, he preformed frequently with YOSA and the San Antonio Civic Symphony under the baton of Domenick Saltarelli. After high school, Stuart attended the New England Conservatory with Colin Carr, David Wells and Lawrence Lesser. He recieved his BA in cello performance from NEC. Once he recieved his BA, he was then selected as section cellist of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Ben Zander. In 1993, he moved to Germany for a position in the Hamburg Mozart Orchestra under the baton of Robert Stehli. He later continued his studies with Charles Curtis (NDR principle cellist.) In 1997, he returned to San Antonio and attended UTSA, majoring in music pedagogy under Dr. Eugene Dowdy and Dr. Scott Balintine. He has devoted the last 14 years to teaching the cello. He currently lives here in San Antonio with his wife, daughter and son.

Ellen Campion - Cello

Antonio Strad Violin is excited to welcome Ellen Campion as a new cello instructor at our San Pedro Location on Tuesdays. Ellen has been playing the cello since she was 7 years old. She has studied under Ken Ishii, Ken Freudigman, John Stuart, Basil Sarweh, as well as Dan Zollars at UTSA. She has taught for the Bulverde Academy of Music, interned with the Hill Country Youth Orchestra, is currently teaching a 5th grade strings program for NISD, and has been teaching privately at the elementary, middle, and high school levels for 7 years. She also plays professionally for several ensembles including Rosewood Ensembles.

Cello Lessons with Rachel Garner - Antoino Strad Violin, San Antonio
Rachel Garner - Cello

Rachel A. Garner, a San Antonio native, has been playing cello since she was 10 years old. She received her Bachelor’s of Music in Cello Performance from Texas State University. At Texas State she maintained the position of principal cellist of the Texas State University Symphony Orchestra for 4 years. Additionally, she participated in Texas State String Project as a private lessons teacher. Over the years Rachel has studied with Benjamin Westney and Dr. Karla Hamelin. Rachel is actively involved in the music community through her string quartet, as a sub for Laredo Philharmonic, and as a guest artist with several local music groups.
