Mrs. Julie Cantu – Cello

Mrs. Julie Cantu is a former NEISD Orchestra Director for 14 years and has been teaching privately in more recent years. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from UT Austin, she is certified to teach music at all levels. Mrs. Cantu received a performance certificate in cello and has Suzuki teacher training as well.

Quentan Milliner – Cello

Quentan Milliner is currently a junior at UTSA majoring in cello performance, studying under San Antonio Symphony cellist Ryan Murphy and other esteemed faculty such as Robert Brewer and Eugene Dowdy. He currently performs with the UTSA Symphony and Chamber orchestras, and maintains a principal seat. Mr. Milliner’s passion for cello is evident in his teaching, with his experience encompassing several years in elementary music, teaching 5th grade strings for NISD and other districts, whilst also maintaining a small private studio.

John Stuart – Cello

Antonio Strad is proud to have Mr. Stuart join our teaching staff. Mr. Stuart, a San Antonio native, has over 14 years of teaching experience in the area. As a young cellist, Stuart attended Alamo Heights High School and studied cello with Dan Zollars. While in high school, he preformed frequently with YOSA and the San Antonio Civic Symphony under the baton of Domenick Saltarelli. After high school, Stuart attended the New England Conservatory with Colin Carr, David Wells and Lawrence Lesser. He recieved his BA in cello performance from NEC. Once he recieved his BA, he was then selected as section cellist of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Ben Zander. In 1993, he moved to Germany for a position in the Hamburg Mozart Orchestra under the baton of Robert Stehli. He later continued his studies with Charles Curtis (NDR principle cellist.) In 1997, he returned to San Antonio and attended UTSA, majoring in music pedagogy under Dr. Eugene Dowdy and Dr. Scott Balintine. He has devoted the last 14 years to teaching the cello. He currently lives here in San Antonio with his wife, daughter and son.

Rachel Garner – Cello

Rachel A. Garner, a San Antonio native, has been playing cello since she was 10 years old. She received her Bachelor’s of Music in Cello Performance from Texas State University. At Texas State she maintained the position of principal cellist of the Texas State University Symphony Orchestra for 4 years. Additionally, she participated in Texas State String Project as a private lessons teacher. Over the years Rachel has studied with Benjamin Westney and Dr. Karla Hamelin. Rachel is actively involved in the music community through her string quartet, as a sub for Laredo Philharmonic, and as a guest artist with several local music groups.
