Aegidius Kloz, German 1799
A fine violin by Aegidius Kloz. 1799
Aegidius Kloz (1733-1805), one of the most outstanding of the German Masters, adheres closely but not slavishly to the general norms of Stainer, just like the majority of the excellent luthiers of this extensive violin-making dynasty from Mittenwald, which profoundly influenced the development of the violin North of the Alps. The varnish is of very high quality. The work on the scroll and peg box can be counted to be among the finest on a German violin.
