A Honore Derazey violin. Very
well flamed maple back and even grain spruce top. Reddish brown varnish evenly
applied on top of yellow base. Very good workmanship with strong, clear responsive
and mature sound. 358mm.
Full name: Jean Joseph Honore' Derazey.
Mirecourt, 1794-1883. Won many medals at Paris 1839, 1844 &1855, also
at London in 1862. Basely instrument modeling inspired by Strad and other
Italian school. Varnish (generally at an yellow shade) material rather too
brittle and strong in fiber to be ideal for tone quality. Later produced large
quantity of instruments, which he asked for 5 to 159 francs according to the
different grades.
